West Bromwich Albion 1-0 Sheffield United: substitute Karlan Grant wins for Baggies in the EFL Cup

Karlan Grant also scored for West Brom in Monday’s draw with Watford

A goal from substitute Karlan Grant gave West Bromwich Albion a win over championship rivals Sheffield United in the Carabao Cup, setting up a second round match to Derby.

In an interesting first half, it was the away side who came closest to opening the scoring when Rhian Brewster’s shot bounced off the post.

Grant scored the winning header from Callum Robinson’s cross just three minutes later.

Both Robinson and Matt Phillips then hit the crossbar in rapid succession as the Baggies tried to secure the win, but one goal was enough.

But there was bad news for the winners, including striker Grant being sidelined with an injury before the end of the match.

After drawing two games to start the season, Steve Bruce’s side head to Pride Park on Tuesday, August 23rd.
