Stockport County 1-0 Colchester United

featured image

Newly promoted Stockport finished the season with a 1–0 win over Colchester.

Substitute Kyle Wootton scored the all-important goal to give last season’s National League champions their first point after a losing streak.

Colchester were threatened first when Marley Marshall Miranda approached with a powerful 20-yard drive.

Stockport is back. Antoni Salcevic smashed his header straight into the goalkeeper Sam his Hornby thanksgiving free.

The hosts continued to boss the remainder of the first period, seeing skipper Paddy Madden strike from a tight angle that was well saved by Hornby.

Salcevic also crashed a smart half-volley just off target as County dominated, but Madden was bravely blocked by U’s skipper Luke Chambers shortly after the restart with a solid 2-0. I saw a strike.

County eventually broke the deadlock when Subwooton rose spectacularly and sent home Ollie Crankshaw’s measured cross.

Madden drove Hornby into another excellent stop in the late stage, and Miles Hippolyte also nearly doubled the hosts’ lead.
