NL East Roundup: Mets stay top of division by 5.5 games

The Mets finished the weekend with a 5.5 game lead at the top of the division despite the Braves sweeping the Marlins by 4 games. With two teams set to start his four-game series on Monday, the Mets should be in a good mood heading into the week.

Let’s see what the National League East looks like on August 15th.

New York Mets: (75-40)

Last 10: 8-2

Hot Guys: Jeff McNeil, IF/OF

McNeil may have had a 13-game hitting streak against the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday, but the 30-year-old has been in tears at bat lately. 375/.450/.688 in his last six games with one home run and he has four RBIs.

Not Covered: Brandon Nimmo, OF

The Mets’ center fielder hasn’t looked like himself with the bat for the last week or so. is only twice. 350 OBP for the entire season, well down from .383 OBP for his entire career.

Atlanta Braves: (70-46)

The 2019 third-round pick has exceeded expectations in his first major league season. Harris has batted .320/.382/.580 in his last 15 games, batting .320/.382/. , in addition to the excellent defense that he has played in center field since his call-up.

Excluded: Marcel OzunaOF/DH

Kozuna was in the middle of a long slump, which resulted in him moving towards the bottom of the Braves. The 31-year-old Power has a .181/.220./.328 batting average in his last 30 games, during which he has four home runs, including 35 strikeouts.

Player to watch: Bryson Stott, 2B/SS

The 24-year-old center fielder has been swinging a hot bat since earning a more defined role in the Phillies lineup. Stott has gone 28-12 with five RBIs and 1.038 OPS in his last seven games.

Excludes: JT Realmuto, C

Real Muto has been hot and cold all through the 2022 season, but this recent stretch has seen him in a bit of a slump. The 31-year-old catcher has batted .192/.222/.538 in his last seven games, with two home runs and he has six RBIs (of which he has struck out eight).

Miami Marlins: (50-65)

Last 10: 2-8

Notable Person: Charles Leblanc, IF

LeBlanc is one of the Marlins who benefited from having the opportunity to play later this year. The 26-year-old infielder has batted .378/.404/.533 in his last 15 games with one home run and he has two RBIs.

Excluded: Jesus Aguilar, 1B

Aguilar is just one of many Marlins hitters who have a difficult time stretching at bat. The first baseman has struck out six times in his last seven games, batting 4-in-19, and his OPS has dropped to .688 this season.
