The Mets are about to embark on another stretch of a tough and important game. Over the next 12 days, the Mets will face the Phillies, Braves and Yankees in 13 games. First, the Phillies’ three-game weekend set.

The Phillies have been on the upswing lately, winning eight of their last 10 games and staying above .500 in 13 games. But they’re skyrocketing at the same time as the Mets are booming, and the Mets are also winners eight of the last 10, so it’s 10.5 games separating the two clubs.

Max Scherzer kicks off this series of games. In over 15 games and 95 2/3 innings this season, Scherzer has an ERA of 1.98 for him, FIP for him at 2.45, WHIP for him at 0.899, and an ERA for him at 203+. He got off to a strong start against the Braves, shutting off offense for seven innings, scattering four hits and taking 11. Since returning from the disabled list, he has made his seven starts and completed 46 total innings and a 1.37 ERA.

Scherzer played against the Phillies many times before being placed on the disabled list. In his first start with them, he allowed one run off five hits and three walks, striking out seven. Earlier in May, he made back-to-back starts against the Phillies, allowing seven runs off 15 hits and striking out 16. The Phillies have the following numbers against him:

  • JT Real Mute 7-58, 2B, 2HR, 4BB, 18K

The Mets bat will see Ranger Suarez again tonight. The Rangers have started 19 games this year, pitching 100 1/3 innings and posting a 3.68 ERA, 3.89 FIP, 1.365 WHIP and a 111+ ERA. Suarez was effective in pitching, although a back spasm kept him out of the starting lineup several times in July. He went 16 in three games, in which he allowed 3 earned runs and no earned runs from 11 hits and 2 walks. As a point of comparison, in his last game against the Nationals, he allowed 3 earned runs from 7 hits and 2 walks in 1/3 innings.

Suarez hasn’t faced the Mets since the season opener in Philadelphia. In that game, the Mets scored three runs from five hits and one walk in 2 2/3 innings. The Mets’ all-time record against Suarez is as follows:

  • Brandon Nemo 3-7, 2BB, K
  • Pete Alonso 0-5, 2BB, K
  • Starling Marte 2-6, BB, K
  • Eduardo Escobar 3-5, 2B, HR
