Manchester United manager Eric ten Hag has personally backed the signing of Frenkie De Jong and Adrien Rabiot when it comes to signing Gini Wijnaldum. The Dutchman is desperate to sign up for a project at Old Trafford, but has reportedly missed the chance to add Premier League and Champions League winner Wijnaldum to his squad.

After the departures of Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic this summer, midfield signings have been a priority for United’s new manager.

Apart from Christian Eriksen, United have yet to hire anyone in the division, but a move for Rabiot is on the horizon.

Ten Hag is understood to have spoken to the player in the same manner as Frenkie de Jong.

They are the only central midfielders Ten Hag has agreed to sign this summer.

Sky Sports reporter Kave Solhekol believes United have achieved all of Ten Hag’s goals in this window, despite only being able to sign three players.

Unfortunately, Wijnaldum was not a player of interest for Ten Hag, as Solhekol revealed on The Transfer Show: “Also, Ten Hag wanted the opportunity to sign Gini Wijnaldum from PSG. I was told he refused.

“We learned last week that Gini Wijnaldum has agreed to join Roma and Jose Mourinho.

“We are told that United have been offered the opportunity to sign a player who has won titles in Liverpool and the Champions League.

“But Eric Ten Hag didn’t want him, even though he wanted to move to Manchester United.

Wijnaldum has since joined Roma on a season loan with a view to permanent transfer.

There are also rumors that United could spend a fortune on Lazio star Sergei Milinkovic-Savic.

The Serbian player has been linked with a move to the Premier League, but has yet to materialize.

It is currently unclear whether Ten Hag gave Milinkovic Savich a seal of approval amid talks of an impending £57 million bid.

United are still refusing to give up top target De Jong, who has repeatedly stated that he wants to stay at Barcelona.

That said, an ongoing dispute between the club and players over unpaid wages could rock the boat and bring De Jong closer to the door of ejection.

Chelsea are believed to be the frontrunners to sign him if he chooses to leave Barcelona.
