DVIDS - News - USNCC Students Complete First Nuclear Engineering Technical Course at ATCC

On August 11, 2022, the first students to enter the Associate of Science in Nuclear Engineering Technology through the U.S. Naval Community College completed their first course through the Alexandria Technical and Community College.

Several students graduated with a Bachelor of Fundamental Nuclear Engineering degree on July 29, the first course in a fully developed associate degree program.

USNCC President Randy R. Cosentino, Ed.D. “We are already hearing from sailors participating in the program about how the program has improved their work, and they are continuing their journey of lifelong learning.”

The Nuclear Engineering Technical Degree Program, like all USNCC degree programs, is offered entirely online in an asynchronous environment to better meet the needs of active duty enlisted members of the United States Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard. This means that military personnel can take naval courses after hours from anywhere in the world with internet access.

Each USNCC degree program includes a Naval Studies Certificate and a Professional Certificate incorporated into the Associate’s degree program. This groundbreaking educational model allows Sailors, Marines, and Coast Guard personnel to earn a certificate within their degree program without taking additional courses. These certifications demonstrate an improved level of relevant knowledge both within and out of Navy service, ensuring that these service members are better prepared for professional success as veterans. We guarantee.

Each degree program is offered in a consortium model with partner institutions. This means that the student will take her Naval Studies Certificate courses directly through USNCC and all other coursework at our partner institutions. For the Associate of Science in Nuclear Engineering Technology, USNCC students take the majority of their courses through her ATCC.

Dr. Dean Tamara Arnott, Director of Educational Services, Alexandria College, said: “Students recognize the difficulties of attending school during their careers and are supported by responsive faculty members, along with dedicated academic advisors. I enjoy the benefits of completing an academic program specifically designed to maximize transfer to a Bachelor’s degree program.”

All active duty enlisted sailors, Marines and Coast Guard personnel are eligible to apply to the USNCC degree program. If you are interested in pursuing a degree in Nuclear Engineering Technology, or any other degree program offered by USNCC, please complete the application at www.usncc.edu.
