Coventry City 1-4 Bristol City: Tommy Conway brace helps Robins advance in Carabao Cup

A crowd of 2,680, including 354 Bristol City fans, traveled to Burton on their way to Thailand.

Bristol City recorded a regular win against fellow Championship side Coventry City, who moved the Carabao Cup first round draw to Burton. Problems with their pitch.

The match was played at Pirelli Stadium, about 30 miles from Coventry. The Coventry Building Society Arena was deemed ‘unsafe’ after hosting a rugby sevens match at the Commonwealth Games at the end of July.

Cal Naismith opened the scoring from a set piece with Robbins’ first goal, Tommy Conway finishing with a sidefoot two seconds after a superb pass from Han Noah Massengo.

It was 3-0 before half-time as Nahke Wells stole the ball deep in Coventry and fed it forward to the 20-year-old Conway.

Coventry made their debuts for summer signings Callum Doyle and Tayo Adalamora, and ex-Burton player Jamie Allen scored a consolatory goal with a volley on Jake Bidwell’s cross.

But Nigel Pearson’s City had the last word. Andreas Weimann finished impressively from a tough angle to secure their place in the second round and first win of the campaign.

Sky Blues, meanwhile, hope to be able to return to their home ground for a visit to Wigan on 16 August.
