UAVOS, a developer and manufacturer of security and commercial solutions based on advanced unmanned systems, has completed a drone-based forest survey project to assess a typical timber environment. Combining digital data with UAVOS’ customized software enables innovative analysis of forestry data. The UAVOS methodology is an advance in forestry, optimizing and improving the way forestry workers collect and routinely analyze data, as well as reducing environmental risks and generating economic wealth in the sector. is also helpful. The project was carried out in partnership with a forestry and land management company.
The UAVOS employed a purpose-built Borey fixed-wing aircraft with a digital camera. The goal of this project was to analyze high-precision spatial data and create 3D line maps from aerial digital photogrammetry and telemetry. High-definition aerial imagery has enabled the UAVOS team to automatically identify tree pests and disease symptoms, assess the general health of trees, and conduct assessments of illegal logging activities. Use of drones to expand the scope of assessing long-term reductions in slow-acting bark beetles in pine forests, a major pest of coniferous forests worldwide.
“Our approach to project management is to limit the spread of bark beetles by annual aerial surveys at the edges of isolated areas followed by destruction of infected trees. ,” said Aliaksei Stratsilatau, CEO of UAVOS.
Data processing for this project was done using an artificial neural network (ANN) and UAVOS’ proprietary AI software specifically designed for large survey datasets. The results are used to identify and optimize forest management activities.
“The results of our project have demonstrated the ability to comprehensively survey approximately 1,000 acres (400 hectares) of forest area in just a few weeks using the Borey unmanned aerial vehicle,” said Aliaksei. increase. “Equipped with a digital camera, his Borey also demonstrated the significant cost-effectiveness benefits of employing a rapid-deployment, unmanned platform to capture forest landscapes.”
