Leicester have rejected a second offer from Newcastle for midfielder James Maddison.
Magpies found their first £40m bid rejected over the weekend and their latest offer exceeds that figure.
Leicester are believed to value near £60m for Maddison, who joined Fox from Norwich in June 2018 for £24m.
Newcastle are now deciding whether to return with an improved offer or focus on other targets.
If Newcastle complete the deal for the Fox midfielder, Maddison would become a record signing for the club, surpassing the £40m he paid Hoffenheim for Joelinton in July 2019.
Madison made 53 appearances in all competitions for Leicester last season, scoring 18 goals and providing 12 assists.

“When basic players like Kasper Schmeichel, James Madison, and maybe Wesley Fofana are going to solidify a team and not be allowed to leave, I’m actually a little worried about Brendan Rodgers.
“Leicester are expected to qualify for the Champions League, but standing still is not a good sign of how they will perform this season.
“There was a lot of talk about having to let players go first before investing. Eventually you’ll know their target. They’re excellent sellers and have recruited well in the past.”
