Anthony Joshua vs Oleksandr Usyk: 'When AJ lets someone sustain a combination, he does it,' says Fraser-Clark | Boxing News

Anthony Joshua was able to deliver Britain’s best night of heavyweight boxing against Oleksandr Usyk, GB Olympic captain Fraser Clark explains why in his own words.

I have attended most sparring sessions in the UK.

I’m just a fighter at the gym, but I have a captain-like personality that wants to see everyone at the gym doing well. I have said some strange words here and there.

Clarke and boxing trainer Gary Logan break down what Joshua and Oleksandr Usyk need to do ahead of their fight at the Sky Sports Box Office

I think what you look for in a fighter is dedication and a will to cause. Joshua thinks he went to Jeddah 12 weeks ago, maybe he went to Loughborough 14 weeks ago. Loughborough is a lovely place, but there isn’t much to do. I think he’s not going back to London and that’s a sign of itself. He took himself away for that long. It’s been a long time since I’ve been camping. It’s mentally hard, it’s physically hard.

Six week camps have their ups and downs, so you can imagine what 14, 16, and 18 week camps are like. There have been good days and bad days, and there have been ups and downs. If you can have more good days than bad days, you are on the right track.

The team he hires is good for battle. There’s Angel His Fernandes youthfulness, Angel His Fernandes enthusiasm, and Robert His Fernandes expertise with his Garcia experience. He has participated in many championship fights.

Good Sparring – It’s not exactly sparring because it’s nearly impossible to try to replicate Oleksandr Usyk. You have good fighters, but not many have that quality. I have no experience like him. They have good fighters, chopping and changing different people. i think they did a great job.

he has no illusions. To beat Usyk, he has to be the best player ever. I think he has to do better than ever. Better than Wladimir Klitschko night. That night had its ups and downs and he had to come back. he may have to do it.

he has every chance. From what I’ve seen him wrestle with day after day, week after week, he gives himself every chance and that’s all that is required of a fighter in camp. With experience and skill, if you give everything you have to give, he will give himself every chance.

A lot of people are talking about what Usyk is so good at and this and that. he is very good There is no mistake. he is a great fighter. But he is human. If AJ hits him on the chin more than once, he’s just a human, he’ll fall and probably won’t get back up.

If Joshua wins a sustained combination with anyone in the world, boxer or not, animal or even tree, he passes them.

I have sparred with him hundreds of times. I think ‘he’s a gunshy’ – when I saw him in sparring, he wasn’t a gunshy.

I think he is a nice person. Guess someone had to pull the bad guys out of him. I’m glad Robert Garcia did that.he drew out the ungiven [stuff] About anyone but winning this battle. he pulled it out of him.

This could be the best night of British heavyweight boxing. I feel like everyone sees him as a big loser, he might be outbox in 12 rounds, but it would be silly to bet on him again.

The biggest fight in women’s boxing history – Claressa Shields vs Savannah Marshall – will be broadcast live on Sky Sports on Saturday, September 10th. Be part of history and buy your tickets for London Showdown here.
